Mobility-Augmented Reality in SmartCities

The project researches the mobility and use conflicts that arise in urban spaces of high heritage value, such as historical sites and university campuses. Those conflicts are caused by the confluence of different uses at certain moments of the day due to their condition of neighborhood, university, heritage and tourist places.
The project will identify and analyze these problems, and propose a methodology to improve the flows of people. The objective is to redefine the public spaces and the road axes, making an integral design of the resulting urban landscapes and their possible interventions, in order to increase the social, patrimonial and cultural value.
The proposed methodology will be based on new tools of Augmented Reality and digital manufacturing of 3d pieces . A model of the urban group to be studied will be built, on which, by Augmented Reality, different intervention proposals will be simulated, allowing the modification of people and group flows . The result of these simulations will support the decisions in a participative way about urban design.
The methodology, due to its versatility, will allow to use it in different areas of action such as Smart Cities (mobility of people and vehicles, waste management, location of emblematic places and stops), tourism, (design of tourist flows, proposals of visualization of patrimonial elements) cultural (visualization of historical, artistic, literary, etc.) and, lastly, social (participation of groups, design of performances, of activities and proposals integration ).
The work will start out with a prototype of the historic center of the University of Alcalá, World Heritage Site. Based on the models made, the different actions to study the conflict zones and designing adequate transit solutions will be simulated, maintaining the sociocultural values of the whole environment. For instance, it will be possible to analyze conflicts of different groups such as the transit through the town in the schools area during rush hours at the time that groups of tourists arrive, accesses to health centers need to be free and minimizing traffic in the downtown area. , etc
